About the Rural Health Initiative of Georgia

The Project

A project sponsored by the WEDI Foundation in conjunction with the Mercer University School of Medicine and the Morehouse School of Medicine to make current technology available to rural providers on an affordable basis that will improve their ability to deliver higher quality care more cost effectively.

Objectives

  • Understand the technology and transaction lifecycle from the rural providers needs and processes, then identify areas where we can add significant value from their perspective

  • Provide technology information solutions to rural providers on an affordable basis that will improve their ability to deliver higher quality care and operate their practices more affordably

  • Create benchmark data on the current uses, challenges and plans for technology in rural areas

  • Identify WEDI’s role in the technology arena and seek additional funding sources to support a technology infrastructure

  • Go beyond normal outsourcing functions and look for opportunities to improve rural provider quality of care and profits

  • Create a healthcare informatics educational curriculum that can be incorporated into medical education of physicians

  • Develop a model that can be easily replicated and deployed in other areas of the country
